Cefixime


Cefixime is an oral third generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It is used to treat gonorrhea[1],tonsilitis[2], and pharyngitis[2].

The usual dose is 400mg in two divided doses for up to 5-7 days.

It was sold under the trade name Suprax in the USA, until 2003 when it was taken off the market by drug manufacturer Wyeth after its patent expired. The oral suspension form of "Suprax" was re-launched by Lupin in the USA. Cefixime is still available in Canada. In India it is available under brand names, such as, ZEEFIX (Agio Pharmaceuticals Ltd.); Ceftas-200 (Intas Pharmaceuticals); ZiFi CV-200 (FDC Limited). In Bangladesh it is manufactured by several manufacturers. Delta Pharma Limited is one of them with the brand name Ofex.[3] In Pakistan it is available under brand names such as Secure (Wilshire Lab. Pvt. Ltd.) In Bangladesh it is available under brand names such as Cap.Cef3(200mg) manufacturers Square Pharmaceutical Ltd. It is very useful drug in Bangladesh.
